Marni for H&M

Versace just left the shop, but the next collaboration is already known. For spring/ summer 2012, H&M is collaborating with Marni. At the video above, an image is sketched about how the collection is going to look. The pieces of Marni's collections are very unique beacuse of their retro prints. Below an image of prevoious Marni designs, to show Marni's style.

I really like the uniqueness of the designs. Perhaps, this will be the first H&M collaboration, I'm going to buy something from.

Thanks to Anouk who provided me with the video!

La classe de la danse

Yesterday, I've been to Swan Lake with my arts class. This famous ballet is about the story of prince Siegfried who falls in love with Odette, the white swan. He declares his love to her, but actually proposes to the wrong swan, Odile. The ballet was amazing and we really enjoyed the music, dance and costumes. Everybody was clapping when the swans came on stage the first time. They looked magical with their white tutus.

Looking at the theme tutus, I decided to look at ways people use tutus in their clothing. Because tutus are no longer just inspiration for classic ballet, but they're also used in fashion. At the collage above, you can see different ways people used the tutu. At the first picture, you can see a blogger who wears a tutu very casual with a grey shirt. At the second image, a famous painting of Degas is shown who especcialy painted ballerinas. It's called 'La classe de la danse'. At the third image, the white swan from Swan Lake is shown. This is the ballerina, we saw at the ballet yesterday. She wears a traditional tutu which makes her look like a swan, combined with the headpiece. At the middle you can see a special edition of 'Flowerbomb' by Viktor & Rolf. They used the theme ballet, and gave their limited edition bottle a tutu. The image next to the image is also from Viktor & Rolf. It's a piece from a very famous collection they made, in which they used a lot of tulle, where tutus are also made from. The last foto has been taken at Fashion Week by a streetstyle photographer. The material and shape of the skirt are inspired by the traditional tutu.

Below, a trailer of Swan Lake, I've been to yesterday. It gives a good impression of the magic of ballerinas in tutus!

je veux

I'm not planning on wearing such an outfit to school, but I'm looking for a nice Christmas outfit. Like all the other 'je veux's', this outfit isn't near to my budget. I spotted the dress today, while working. It's got some beautiful embellished details at the sleaves, which make this LBD a special one. I've combined it with some gold and bronze.

Black embellished dress  French Connection €229,95
Bronze clutch Mulberry €444

only item left

I just took a look at the H&M shop. There are still a few items left from the Versace collection and I actually kind of like this one. I think it's more a summer skirt, to wear with a loose white tanktop. But in a winter outfit, I could wear it with a black blouse, tights and heels.

I'm gonna sleep a night on it.

United colours of Benetton

United colors of Benetton, is knowm for its contorversial advertising with the aim to show the social problems in the world. Yesterday, they launched a new campaign, called UNHATE. With this campaign, Benetton aimed to foster tolerance and 'global love'. On the right poster at the image, the pope is shown, kissing an senior Egyptian imam. The vatican announced that they think this photo is unrespectfull, and Benetton was forced to pull the image from the new campaign. As I allready said, Benetton is known for it's ads, so I decided to show some, that I think are really confronting and shocking, but that also make a statement.

United colors of Benetton is a fashion brand, but they use their reputation to make a statement. I think that's a good thing to do. Which one do you think is the most confronting of shocking?

Collaborating with H&M, a succes story

Today, the H&M launched another collaboration, this time with versace. On the 28th of octobre, I already wrote an article about Versace for H&M. When I was just looking at the online shop, I saw that almost everything was sold out. Apart from some weird looking bomberjack. A friend of mine was taking a look at the site, this afternoon, and she got the sign shown above: ''We're sorry!'. It can be concluded that the collaborations with H&M are a huge succes. They make designer pieces accessible and affordable. A lot of famous designers have already collaborated with H&M. I remember a few of the collaborations but to give you a good view, I googled it.

Karl lagerfeld for H&M 2004

Stella McCartney for H&M 2005

Vikor and Rolf for H&M 2006

Comme des Garcons for H&M 2008

Matthew Williamson for H&M 2009

Jimmy Choo for H&M 2009

Sonia Rykiel for H&M 2009

Lanvin for H&M 2010

Versace for H&M 2011

I've left some of the collaborations out, but I guess I gave you a good vieuw this way, right? Striking is that the style of the collections are good alternated. So that everyone has got a choice. The collections of Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney and Comme des Garcons are really simpel if you compare them to the remarkable collections of others like Versace. Still the collections are collectors items, where only people with a real interest in fashion put effort in. With patience and good luck, you are able to get hold of an item.

The rumours about a possible next collaboration are on again. It's said that Tom Ford will be the next to design a collection for H&M. The creative director of H&M already said, that she thought, Tom Ford would be an interesting choice. I guess we'll just have to wait!

The magic of heels

I felt very proud yesterday, being able to walk on my new wedges an entire day. But my 15.5 cm heels are nothing compared to these 20 cm ones from Christian Louboutin. Louboutin got inspired by ballet shoes when he designed this pair of heels. Ofcourse no one is able to walk on shoes like these. While walking around at high heels, I often get questions, why girls torture themselves with uncomfortable shoes. Well, I've got some pretty good reasons.

People always say, that heels must be invented by men, to make a girls ass look prettier. That could really be true. Lots of men twist their necks when a girl in high heels walkes by. And well they're actually right. Your but looks prettier when you're wearing heels, your legs look longer and you're much more elegant. (Don't see the previous sentence as publicity for high heels because some girls are just not made for them)

When I was googling the history of heels I found an article that said that people really began wearing them around the year 1600. The nobility used to wear red heels to show their status and their nobility. Around 1650 fancy clothing became populair. Wealthy traders, who were often in France brought fashion as well as high heels with them. Ofcourse the poor started copying the heels.

On the left, shoes that the nobility used to wear and on the right heels from the 1650's.

After the revolution, the view on shoes changed. People started to dress more plain. High heels became outrageous and people didn't wear them anymore. From 1948 high fashion from Paris and Italy was from great influence. High heels became hot again and that didn't change anymore.

It doesn't matter that it's said that men invented heels, just because our asses would look better that way. We ourselves decide to wear them because we feel a lot prettier and confident that way. No matter how much they hurt, I'll continue to wear them.
